Thunder Dog book by Michael Hingson

On this 15th Anniversary of 9/11 my blog post today is Thunder Dog book by Michael Hingson with Susy Flory.  “The True Story of a Blind Man, His Guide Dog & the Triumph of Trust at Ground Zero.”  He was on the 78th floor of the World Trade Center’s north tower on September 11, 2001 at 8:46 a.m. at work with his guide dog Roselle.

Last October, when our family dog Cuddy and I were seeing the veterinarian a lot when he got so sick on one visit we got on the topic of books about Dogs that were real special.  She highly recommended two books.  The first was “Thunder Dog” by Michael Hingson which we are covering today.  The second book was The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein (2008) written from the perspective of the family dog, Enzo, I blogged about here last December.  Both are fantastic books!

“Thunder Dog” 9/11 story by Michael Hingson

The book is a testimony to love and faith and teamwork with Michael and his guide dog Roselle.   Even though I had received the book last October prior to our losing Cuddy I wanted to wait to read the book.   The timing was right this Spring – I read the book prior to the arrival of our puppy Cooper in June.

The way Michael weaves his life story into the book of his life experiences had me thinking his life prepared him to be there that day.  He had amazing parents who really treated him as a ‘sighted’ person with recalling stories of him riding his bike in the neighborhood as a child!  It is truly a wonderful book!

When I look over my hardback copy of the book I can still see tear splotched pages from the range of sadness and then joy for little things when I was reading it; he shares upon finally arriving at home that evening it includes being greeted from Linnie his retired guide dog. He pulls off her harness and tries to brush her.  “…but for once she won’t stand still.  She runs off like she’s on a mission and comes back in a few minutes with her prized Booda Bone, a braided rope with a big knot on each end.”…

This YouTube the Author himself talks about the book and includes Roselle.

Michael Hingson on Larry King Live – September 11, 2002

Thank you for joining me today for Thunder Dog book by Michael Hingson.   The demonstration of love, hope, and faith as shared in this book is uplifting.  If you haven’t read the book yet I hope that you will give it consideration for reading in the future.  It is also available in a six cd audio series set.

Just as I did with my blog post last year on this day,
I am not closing my blog post with my usual sign-off today but instead am closing with revered silence.
