“MARK TWAIN’S LETTERS 1853-1910, COMPLETE”

Today, May 27, is the day Mark Twain’s bronze figures of Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer were erected in Hannibal, Missouri in 1926.   In looking for a photo of that bronze statue I came across “The Letters Of Mark Twain, Complete” – they are online at Project Gutenberg for free!

The stamp shown today (upper left) is of Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain) US Postage stamp — issue of 1940, 10c, brown.  It is one of the Famous American commemorative issues of 1940.   Attribution: By US Post Office [Public domain], via Wikimedia Commons.   Source: US Post Office Hi-res scan of postage stamp by Gwillhickers.

“MARK TWAIN’S LETTERS 1853-1910, COMPLETE”

The Project Gutenberg EBook of the Letters of Mark Twain, Complete by Mark Twain (Samuel Clemens)has everything listed by Volume I through Volume VI. (On Twitter: @gutenberg_org)   “Project Gutenberg was the first provider of free electronic books, or eBooks. Michael Hart, founder of Project Gutenberg, invented eBooks in 1971 and his memory continues to inspire the creation of eBooks and related technologies today.”  I am looking forward to making my way through seeing what is in Volumes 1 – 6.

This is the link to “The Works of Mark Twain” not just his letters, but all 1835-1910.  The summer season is the perfect time to read (or re-read) some of these classics and discover new selections too.

williamshatner as marktwainTweetMay262015The timing was perfect to see in my Twitter stream last night this tweet about Mark Twain by Mary Drury (On Twitter @DrurysLane).   “Another reason to love @CBC! @WilliamShatner as #MarkTwain on @CBCMurdoch Season 9 #CdnTV #CBC250K #MurdochMysteries”.  Here is a snapshot of that tweet!

I know personally some of the email subscribers to this blog, AnchoredScraps.com, and know they watch the Murdoch Mysteries including my Mom!   How much fun it will be for her to read about it here!
