“Bond, James Bond”

Happy Thursday!  Today we have three items – all James Bond related.

Earlier this week there was an article about the new James Bond movie, Spectre (which opens in the U.S. tomorrow, on November 6) –  that it turned down a product placement offer for $50 Million.

This article from November 02, it includes talking about how both Sony and Samsung were turned down:  “Bond wouldn’t carry Android, Daniel Craig says, declines $50M product placement.”

“James Bond films are a hotspot for product placement, but sometimes the cost is not worth the potential damage to the character. After the out-of-place $45 million Heineken promotion in Skyfall, the Bond franchise decided to cut back on product placements in Spectre.

That included not giving Bond a smartphone, rejecting offers from both Sony and Samsung made earlier in the year…

Spectre managed to surpass Skyfall, the previous Bond film, in the opening week at the box office. The film reached $80.4 million in the UK alone, with its debut in U.S. cinemas coming later this week.”

This approach of protecting the Brand in my opinion makes the other items that are included even more valuable.   This also causes me to think the approach of not accepting the offer can apply to other areas of our lives too.

It was fun to come across this James Bond YouTube seeing the different James Bond intros.

Today’s blog post is not the first time I have included a reference to James Bond.

From my May 08th blog post:
“On this day in history, May 08, 1963, Sean Connery stars in his first Bond movie, Dr. No.   There was this article on digital trends from Dec 07, 2013:  “For your eyes only: Letters that reveal deepest secrets of the 007 creator Ian Fleming… and the day he almost dropped dead at a Sunday Times meeting.  Letters between James Bond creator Ian Fleming and his friend Denis ‘CD’  Hamilton are on sale for £160,000″

While you are out and about this weekend – perhaps seeing this new movie! – may we be inspired to put pen to paper and actually write a ‘real’ letter – who knows in time they may be valued like the above referenced for Ian Fleming and note how these letters were hand written!

Anchors Aweigh,

Helen
